During the past couple of years, we have witnessed an explosion in the use of database engines (e.g., Oracle) at both the enterprise and department level of a wide range of businesses. The Internet environment has provided additional impetus for more dependence on these engines.
As user loads grow and data storage demands expand, a primary issue for many DBAs has been extracting maximum performance from the application, especially as performance relates to disk drive I/O.
