5. Administering ZFS File Systems
Several file system types are available for configuring storage in Oracle Solaris, but ZFS is the default file system used in Oracle Solaris 11. Before Oracle Solaris 10, the traditional type of file system used for storing data in the Oracle Solaris environment was the UFS. The ZFS file system was introduced in Oracle Solaris 10, and now ZFS is the file system of choice in Oracle Solaris 10 and 11. ZFS is used on the boot drive and all storage drives, including SAN and network-attached storage (NAS) devices.
SVM volumes and UFSs can still be created and used in Oracle Solaris 11, but Oracle is recommending that system administrators migrate these file systems to ZFS.
