AMD Advanced Micro Devices is a semiconductor company. AMD, a competitor to Intel, makes the Opteron chip. AMD processors are compatible with the Intel x86 and x86_64 line of processors.
AMD-V technology The virtualization technology that has been added to the AMD processor line to accelerate virtualization functions. The AMD-V technology works by intercepting system calls that would normally be processed in software and processing them in hardware. Currently, more of the hardware virtualization focuses around memory access.
