DEREK F. ABELL is professor of strategy and marketing at IMD Switzerland. He also is professor of technology and management at the two Swiss Institutes of Technology, in Zürich and Lausanne. He is program director of the jointly offered program Mastering Technology Enterprise and IMD's International Program for Board Members. His primary teaching and research interests are in strategic marketing, general management, and leadership in technology-based industry. He joined IMD (then IMEDE) as dean in 1981.
