When shock cannot be quarantined
The previous chapter discussed the phenomenon of parts of large firms needing to be resilient; the localized societal and industrial conditions providing shocks to a relatively isolated part of the organization. In a worst case scenario, that part of the organization may need to be truncated, as happens when MNEs exit from foreign markets following periods of under-performance. Attempts to deal with the crisis sometimes turn out to be all in vain.
