In March 2007, Apple released a device that connected to a television set called Apple TV. It allowed people to experience their iTunes content, including purchased music, TV show episodes, movies and music videos, as well as their photos and home videos through their home theater system or high-definition television.

Five years later, in March 2012, the third-generation Apple TV device was released. It offered a true high-definition viewing experience in 1080p, plus better integration with iCloud and the AirPlay functionality offered by the iDevices with iOS 5.
