9.3. Designing for Security and Reliability
The bulk of this chapter focuses on features of and extensions to OSPF and IS-IS that contribute to security and reliability. However, the features and extensions examined here can protect your network only from the potentially negative influences that these two protocols can have. So many other things can go wrong that tightly securing your IGP while ignoring wider vulnerabilities is a bit like locking the door but leaving the windows wide open. Therefore, the remainder of this chapter provides an overview of wider factors to consider for ensuring a secure, reliable network. This section examines good design practices, and Section 9.4 examines good operational practices.
