1. Functional Specifications

This introductory chapter lists the various features provided by the enclosed OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) implementation. The two sample ports of the implementation, an OSPF routing daemon for Linux and an OSPF routing simulator, are also briefly described.

1.1. Feature Set

The OSPF source code in this book is a complete implementation of the OSPFv2 specification, RFC 2328 [75]. All OSPF interface types—namely, broadcast, point-to-point (both numbered and unnumbered), NBMA (nonbroadcast multiaccess), Point-to-MultiPoint interfaces, and virtual links—are supported.
