Appendix A. Keyboard Shortcuts

With today’s graphical interfaces, people tend to get fixated on using the mouse. But because many of the tasks you perform with Outlook involve keyboard entry, it’s often more efficient to use a keyboard shortcut to perform a task or access a menu command. You’ll be surprised at how much faster you can work by learning just a few of the more common keyboard shortcuts for the components and views you work in most frequently.

Note

With the sheer number of keyboard shortcuts offered, you are probably going to experience a shortcut conflict between Outlook and another running program at some point in time. If this happens, note the action or dialog generated by the keys pressed, and close the offending program. If you use the Internet chat program ICQ, this product has known keyboard conflicts with Outlook that can only be resolved by closing it.

The following tables list many of the keyboard shortcuts available in Outlook. Each table focuses on a topic area (like views, or working with Calendar); a task description is in the left column, and the associated keyboard shortcut is in the right.
