Fast Brain Fallacy: How Many Countries in Africa?
A couple of years ago, I gave an in-class presentation to a group of mature students about the psychology used in advertising that leads people to deceive themselves.
At the end of the class, a few, okay a majority of students, said that they did not believe me. These mature students said they could never be fooled by these techniques… and besides, they were not influenced by advertising at all. They always made rational decisions.
Before their next class a week later, I contacted the teacher and asked him to put a large number 19 on the blackboard before anyone got there and not to mention anything about it. I just chose a random, prime number that was low enough to make my point.
