Abstract
This chapter considers how public libraries contribute to wider European agendas to support lifelong learning and facilitate access to information for social and digital inclusion. The chapter outlines how government agendas for lifelong learning are reflected in public library strategies and services, and considers digital skills deficits across the United Kingdom, as well as the affect this could have on the wider economy and already disadvantaged areas. The role public libraries play in developing the digital literacy skills of citizens is discussed.
