This chapter focuses primarily on Key Performance Indicators, or KPIs, which I define as “the operational and financial measures that will have the greatest impact on the success (or failure) of your company.” The word operational is italicized here because operational measures are the activity-based, leading measures that actually drive financial performance and are more important in this regard than lagging, financial measures.
