Photo Techniques III: Adventures in Collage
Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen.
—Leonardo da Vinci
6.1 Introduction
What is a Collage?
A collage is an assembly or composition of diverse elements. Traditionally, gluing various materials, such as paper, cloth, and wood, onto a surface has created collages. With the advent of programs like Photoshop and Painter, we can now easily combine diverse elements on the digital canvas with great flexibility and ease.
Like the assembly of words in a poem, an assembly of images in a collage conveys emotion and meaning. To take da Vinci's quote one step further, collage is poetry that is seen and felt.
