10.5.1. Generative Models

Generative models are perhaps the oldest semi-supervised methods and they have been used in statistics for many years. The essence behind these methods is to model the class-conditional densities p(x|y), using information provided by both labeled and unlabeled data. Once such a model is available, one can compute the marginal distribution p(x)(10.10)the joint distribution(10.11)and finally the quantity that is required by the Bayesian classifier(10.12)
