Chapter 11. Discovering Patterns

How do we discover and identify patterns? We can gather patterns from external sources such as vendors and the community easily enough. However, things get more complex when we seek to discover and identify the patterns that are unique to our organization. We also need to keep in mind that these two aspects—internal and external sourcing—do not happen in isolation. We strive to create a set of patterns that draws upon both sources and delivers a mix that is unique and tailored to the needs of our organization. The goal is to define a set that delivers a competitive advantage to the organization.
