Chapter 2. Buying a PC

If you’re in the market for a new PC, I feel your pain. Whoops, I mean how exciting for you! I jest because purchasing a PC is probably more complicated than actually using one. There are tons of manufacturers, each offering umpteen models with impenetrable names such as “ET2600SFX” and “597D3i.” Then there are the specifications for each machine, which toss around head-scratch-inducing terms such as “dual core” and “DDR3” and “L3 cache.” Without knowing the meaning of these and other examples of PC-buying geek speak, how can you be sure not only that you’re buying the right PC, but that you’re buying the right PC at the right price?
