Chapter 4. Taking Your PC for a Spin

Now that you have your PC unpacked and positioned where you want it, and with the various parts and peripherals connected to the appropriate ports, your PC is ready for its first test drive. This chapter helps you do just that by showing you how to start your PC and how to negotiate the Windows 8 setup screens. From there, I take you on a tour of the Windows 8 Start screen and show you how to use your keyboard and mouse to get around. (For good measure, I also introduce you to a few touch gestures just in case you’re using a tablet.) Finally, you also learn how to put your PC to sleep, restart your PC, and shut down your PC.
