Simplifying Contracts and contracting

Definition: Contracting is the process of agreeing boundaries and is a dialogue that establishes and then sustains the relationship. Contracting is important at the beginning of a relationship to set out the initial terms of engagement, i.e. it creates the “Contract” (an agreement that clarifies mutual expectations and obligations). Additionally, it is a critical set of skills that are used throughout the relationship, which enables all parties to voice and explore issues when things become unclear or difficult.
