“Anyone can hold the helm when the sea is calm.” Roman author Publilius Syrus probably wasn’t thinking about information security when he wrote those words sometime in the first century B.C., but his maxim can be applied to leaders in any crisis situation. The quotation always makes me think of the CISOs, InfoSec directors, and data protection managers I have worked with throughout my career. I’ve known many good, skilled folks responsible for securing the information assets of their organizations.
