The Morphics

The word morphic is from the Greek word morphos, which means “form” or “shape.” I recall giving a lecture on what I called “The Morphics” and having a Korean student inquire in private, “What does the word morphic mean?” I said that it simply meant form. She then politely advised, well, why didn’t I use that word instead of morph? (Morph was not in her Korean/English dictionary.) I thanked her and used her suggestion in subsequent lectures.
