Chapter 17Alternative Survey Approaches
Most of the survey items presented in this part of the book use the easy-to-analyze degree-of-agreement scale and positive language so that the desired response is a 6 (“strongly agree”). However, there are some alternative approaches that you might want to use within your survey. Four of these methods are explored here: open-ended questions, a mixture of positive and negative survey items, a “since last year” format, and a degree-of-importance survey that asks employees what they think about change options on the table. You can adapt most of the survey items in this book to one of these methods.
