Sometimes the titles Administrative Assistant, Office Manager, and even Executive Assistant lead people to put us in boxes we don’t fit in … or keeps us in boxes we’ve outgrown. While respect for the administrative and office professions is growing (with thanks to the amazing professionals in the field and their advocates such as Susan and organizations such as IAAP), there still are plenty of people who haven’t moved beyond the day when women became secretaries because they didn’t want to teach or be nurses while they waited to get married.
