Chapter 10Coaching Employee Performance after a Crisis

Problems crop up every day in the business world. Some are minor and dealt with immediately. Others are more lingering and have deeper effects. Some are catastrophic. Single, well-defined, notable events (e.g., layoffs or a fire) can have deep impact, but so can long-range trends that aren’t as urgently noticeable but still have a big effect (e.g., decreased sales over a year or product recalls). We can’t always predict a crisis or its severity, but we can almost always learn valuable lessons and create lasting change from it. In some cases you have an opportunity to start over, allowing you to improve in areas you will wish you could have implemented prior to the crisis.
