Chapter 16Norming and Performing

After forming and storming, teams will spend the bulk of their time norming and performing. These two stages are somewhat fluid and often overlap. Getting to work after brainstorming involves testing the waters, seeing what works and what doesn’t, which is known as norming. There may be a learning curve if team members need to train on new techniques or procedures. Changes, disruptions, and opportunities can take a well-performing team and send them back to make adjustments before starting to perform again. The techniques and phrases offered in this chapter will probably be used over and over again in the life of a team.
