Abstract
This chapter deals with the Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS). GIPS are ethical standards for the presentation of the results of investment firms. Firstly, the historical development which led to the GIPS in its current form is briefly described. Then the key characteristics of the standards are addressed: definition of the firm, definition of composites and the computation of composite returns. The chapter closes with a description of the most common dispersion measures and an overview of the provisions for the presentation of risk in the firm’s investments.
