Maintenance and Reliability Models
22.1 Introduction
Maintenance activities keep a production system operable. Facilities and equipment continually wear out and need repairs and replacement. Maintenance keeps or restores an asset to satisfactory operating condition. Without proper maintenance, production delays can be experienced, excessive idle time may occur, and unsafe working conditions may result. Maintenance costs are lower when the asset is new and increase as the equipment ages.
