23.1 Introduction

Quality control is much more than the application of statistical methods to process improvement. However, statistical process control (SPC) methods are the basis for measuring quality. The methodology is the same if the processes are in disparate areas such as manufacturing or health care. Within an organization, these methods may also be applied to process development, management, engineering design, finance, accounting, and marketing.
