COMPETENCY IDENTIFICATION AND ASSESSMENT PROCESS

To diagnose competencies, organizations adopt several approaches. A manual top-down-driven approach is described in Wolfe and Grosch (1990). It starts out on the organizational level where core competencies of an organizational unit are distinguished from competencies of individual employees. In order to ensure that employee competencies are managed in line with the future needs of the organization, the skills management initiative starts by looking at future developments of the market and the needs of the customer and from these goes on to define the core competencies of the organizational unit.
