Communication

In a performance network, communication occurs within, across, around, and outside traditional boundaries. Although leadership may start a transformation with a communication plan that describes how the network partners will hear what is important—and even which messages are especially important—most communication occurs outside expected channels. Communication is simultaneously consistent, conflicted, and definitely unexpected. As anyone who has ever worked inside a large bureaucracy knows, big news spreads faster than a speeding bullet, bad news even faster, and all news has its own twists and turns despite the clearest preferences of the presiding leadership.
