Exploring a new programming language always starts with understanding what it is and how it works. In the case of Perl, first there is a core language— called Perl—which is a Perl syntax and a set of basic functions. The Perl syntax lets you write very powerful and flexible programs. It is designed to take care of a lot of the bookkeeping and details for you.
