In his 1962 book Strategy and Structure, Alfred Chandler argues that an organization’s structure should be driven by its chosen strategy and that, if it isn’t, inefficiency results.¹⁰¹

Taking this one step further, the degree to which project activities are reflected in the organization’s structure determines overall implementation success. When executives underestimate or completely ignore this fact, organizations fail to evolve (or adapt) as quickly as the business and markets do.
