Richard Champion de Crespigny, captain at Qantas Airlines, is as celebrated in Australia as Captain Chesley Burnett “Sully” Sullenberger is here in the United States. Captain de Crespigny knows what it’s like to be in Sully’s shoes in a way that very few others can.

On the morning of November 4, 2010, de Crespigny was in command of a catastrophically disabled aircraft, Qantas Flight 32, going from Singapore to Sydney with 469 on board the Airbus A380.
