This chapter describes the networking capabilities Windows XP provides. For the most part, I purposely avoid talking about networks in general or even comparing the various options you have. The reason is simple: A single chapter can’t possibly contain everything you’ll ever need to know about networking. You can find volumes of information about this topic—and some people think that those books are just barely adequate. In this chapter, I’ll provide you with some insights into the way Windows XP provides network services.
