It would be nice to say that Windows XP takes care of every problem and that you’ll never experience any kind of software error ever again—but that wouldn’t be reality. Windows XP does provide a level of safety you’ve probably never seen. From a security standpoint, it’s much better than Windows 9x. If an application is so misbehaved that Windows XP can’t find a compatibility mode for it, Windows XP kills it immediately. In four months of extensive application testing, I didn’t encounter a single general protection fault (GPF) or system crash under Windows XP—either the application would run or it wouldn’t.
