Chapter 18. The Design and Execution of Hydraulic Fracturing Treatments
18.1. Introduction
The previous chapter presented methods to determine what sort of hydraulic fracture would optimize well performance for a given reservoir, and methods to forecast well performance for assumed fracture conditions. In this chapter, we focus on the techniques needed to design and execute the hydraulic fracturing process to achieve the treatment goals. A fracturing treatment design begins with the desired fracture geometry and fracture conductivity. Then, appropriate fracture fluids and proppants are selected, and treatment volume, pumping schedule, and proppant loading schedule are designed to achieve the desired final fracture geometry.
