Frames Per Second and Camera Buffer
Capturing the perfect sports shot is easier when you can take a lot of photos in quick succession. For example, if you are shooting a football game and the quarterback hands the ball off to the running back, being able to shoot the entire exchange is a good thing. Back when photographers used film, the number of frames you could take in quick succession was limited only by the amount of film in the camera and the speed of the motor used to advance the film. With digital photography, the number of images you can take in a row is dependent on a variety of factors: the camera’s frame-per-second setting, the size of the buffer in the camera, the speed of the memory card, and the size of the image files.
