Ansel Adams’ book Yosemite and the Range of Light is filled with his photographs of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in California. Late one afternoon on a wintry day in those same mountains, I captured the crepuscular rays of light in the opening photograph of this chapter. The sun had dropped behind the ragged edge of the eastern slope of the Sierras, creating these strong, visible beams of light that many people call “God rays.”
