Frames Per Second and Camera Buffer

Sports move really fast, making the ability to shoot multiple images in quick succession important. The frames-per-second ability of a camera indicates how many images you can take in a row, but it is only part of the equation. The second part is the size of the camera’s buffer. When you take a photo with a digital camera, the image is first stored in a chunk of memory (the buffer) before it is written to the memory card. The bigger the buffer, the faster this happens. The faster this happens, the more photos you can take in succession.
