most well known for his project Intended Consequences: Rwanda
Children Born of Rape.

The work, published as a book and an Emmy-
nominated multimedia film, began as an assignment for Newsweek
magazine in 2006 to cover the effects of AIDS in Africa, for a story
coinciding with the twenty-fifth anniversary of the outbreak of HIV/AIDS.
While on that story, Torgovnik photographed Tutsi women who “survived”
the Rwandan genocide, as rape survivors, impregnated by their Hutu
rapists who also infected many of them with HIV/AIDS. The women talked
