Brent Stirton
The first thing you notice about Brent Stirton, an award-winning South
African photographer who works as a senior assignment photographer
for Getty Images, is that he’s a big, tall man. The second thing you
notice is that he is surprisingly gentle and soft-spoken. Stirton, who
has a degree in journalism, is a self-taught photographe r who taught
himself quite well. In his shor t 14-year career, he has become a v ery
well-respected documentary photog rapher known f or his work on
sustainability and humanitarian affairs: HIV/AIDS, e nvironment,
poverty, conflict and postconflict re covery, and women’s
empowerment. He works regularly for
