Comparing yourself to others.

Q: I THOUGHT I WAS AWESOME. THEN I SAW YOUR BUDDY DAVID E. JACKSON’S WORK. NOW I’M DEPRESSED AND FEEL LIKE I’M A HACK. IS IT OKAY TO COMPARE YOURSELF WITH OTHER PHOTOGRAPHERS OR NOT?

A: No. You can’t. You just can’t do that. It’s so easy to do. It’s a bad trap. It’s okay to think you suck and let that push you to get better, but there’s one Dave in the world and that is all we need. Trust me. I know the guy. :)

While you can sort of categorize Dave into a genre, he does have has his way of doing things. I have my way of doing things. Cowart goes about things his way. As do you. Or, you should.
