One of the best things about Bridge is that you can reconfigure it in countless ways to make it fit the workflow of whatever task you happen to have at hand, be it searching for photographs, reviewing and labeling images, or viewing embedded image metadata. You can reorganize the workspace to suit your needs by dragging the vertical or horizontal bar between panels to make them bigger or smaller; or just close panels that aren't useful for the task you're currently working on (you can always get them back by selecting them from the Window menu). You can also use Bridge to browse the files and folders on local hard drives, attached optical media, and networked or shared drives.
The default workspace configuration of Bridge — known as Essentials — is shown in Figure 3.1.
Bridge ships with eight standard workspace configurations, the first six of which can be quickly accessed by pressing the Ctrl/.cmd; key in conjunction with the F1–F6 keys on your keyboard:
Essentials. This view shows folder listings, favorite folders and images, image thumbnails, a larger preview of the selected image, and metadata and keywords that have been or can be applied to your images.
