Chapter 1. The Workflow

Inspiration

I’ll start this book by giving you an idea of the workflow process in the creation of my work—how it all begins, the many stages that go into the various aspects of development of an image, and how I stay organized.

When people ask me why I chose a particular street or specific rusty sign, I usually reply that the subject chose me. I don’t go looking for a subject to paint. I could be just walking down the street on my way to run an errand when suddenly I see a painting. The mood, the light, or something about what I am seeing catches my imagination. I actually see the painting!
