Installation on Windows

Windows users have a plethora of options for installing the required applications. The operating system has its own Web server—IIS (Internet Information Services) and PWS (Personal Web Server)—and you can also use Apache, Xitami, and many others.

MySQL will run on most Windows operating systems (specifically those that are 32-bit, such as Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, and XP). For my example here, I’ll be installing the latest release of MySQL, along with IIS and PHP, on Windows 2000.

To install MySQL on Windows:

Download the Zip file from the MySQL Web site (Figure A.12).
