CHAPTER 2
Noise in Wireless Communications
We saw in Chapter 1 that the information capacity of a communications channel depends on the ratio of signal power to equivalent noise power at the receiver input. The present chapter will describe the sources of noise power and develop expressions for calculating the noise power. It will be seen that the calculations depend on such factors as the central frequency and bandwidth of the receiver, on noise generation by objects in the region that the antenna is focused onto, and on noise generation in the receiver itself.
