The author first started to think about biometrics and certificates in the early 1990s and, by the late 1990s, had formulated some ideas in this context and also incorporated some application design aids into the BANTAM Biometric and Token Technology Application Modelling Language. It would seem to make sense that, if identity verification was important, then biometrics might usefully be used alongside digital certificates.
