A Note About JavaScript Implementations

The various implementations of JavaScript are designed to interface seamlessly with Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. New features have been introduced in various areas of the language model, including but not limited to the following:

  • Events

  • Objects

  • Properties

  • Methods

The latest versions of Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer have been coded to support these new features, but earlier versions have not. Backward compatibility is, therefore, an issue. The following codes are used next to section headings to indicate where objects, methods, properties, and event handlers are implemented:

  • 4— Netscape Navigator 4
