Windows Media Player
In the past, Microsoft has ignored obvious trends and left the Media Player about as bare bones as you can get while Apple was busy working on QuickTime, and Real was already starting to establish its dominance in Internet audio and video streaming technologies. Microsoft did, however, start to get the idea and released Windows Media Player (WMP) 7.0, which also marked the first time Microsoft deliberately created an application that uses what are termed “skins” and offers “Visualizations” (see Figure 13.10).
