Creating a sprite sheet

In this recipe, we are going to create a sprite sheet using the freely available TexturePacker application.

Getting ready

Head over to http://bit.ly/Nm0lUd and download TexturePacker. It is available for Window, Mac OS, and Ubuntu. This recipe uses the Windows version. The sprites used in this example can be downloaded from http://bit.ly/T3odB5. Run through the install and then run TexturePackerGUI. When prompted, select Use Essential to enable the basic free version.

We are going to create a 256 x 128 sprite sheet using these seven individual 64 x 64 pixel frames of animation, as shown in the following diagram:
