CREATIVE TRANSITIONS: WHEN A SIMPLE CUT JUST ISN’T ENOUGH!

Transitions can be used in the traditional sense, such as a full-frame dissolve or wipe effect, and as effects in and of themselves, contributing to an overall design element.

A transition is easily one of the most used effects throughout video and broadcast. This chapter explains how third-party transitions move the viewer from one scene to the next. Transitions give you the style, and allow you to seamlessly bring all your pieces into one. That said, transitions can also be extremely hokey. Case in point: the infamous Kiki wipe, the idiosyncratic wipes in Wes Craven’s Swamp Thing, and the cringe-worthy wipes in Star Wars: Episode III—Revenge of the Sith.
